"6 Points of Connection" (wire and paper) is a year-long exploration conducted as part of the Newcastle Art Space Mentoring program 2024. This initiative delves into the intricate architecture of bubbles, balancing their fragile essence with a startlingly rigid geometric organization. When bubbles intersect, they create six points of connection at 120-degree angles, forming hexagonal shapes far more frequently than circular ones. Despite the infinite variation in size and quantity, their point of connection remains unwavering.
As an artist, I have shifted my focus towards the dynamic interplay between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. This work begins with a linear foundation (1D), manipulated to create a surface (2D), and subsequently folded into a volume (3D). This transformative journey is captured through the interplay of light, generating delicate, layered shadows that coalesce into a new yet transient two-dimensional surface.
The use of wire, as a material for the bubbles, was cultivated during a four-week residency at Nobby’s Lighthouse—whibayganba—in partnership with Lighthouse Art Residency. The concept has evolved further with the incorporation of handmade paper pulp into the wire framework, enriching the dialogue between surface, light, and shadow.
